  • Partitions are logical subsections of a hard disk. Different partitions can have different file system or different Operating systems. Partitioning a single large hard disk is an essential task that helps you to take backups easily and also to install another Operating system i.e. for dual boot or multiboot environments.  Every hard disk can have more than one partition. Each partition behaves as independent HDDs therefore, they are also called as logical drives. After partitioning the hard drive, each partition needs to be formatted, which creates new file system to store and manage files.

File system also determines the maximum size of file, cluster size and size of the partitions. Windows Operating system supports two different types of partitions i.e. FAT partitions and NTFS partitions. FAT12, FAT16, FAT32 and ExFAT are the major versions of FAT file system. FAT12 and FAT16 file systems are specially designed for floppy disks and also used on older versions of Windows OS. FAT32 is more robust and flexible file system that supports drives having large storage capacity i.e. up to 2TB. But, FAT32 file system clusters should not be 64KB or larger. In such case, ExFAT can be used. Like FAT, NTFS also has 5 different versions like v1.0, v1.1,v1.2,v3.0 and v3.1. NTFS v1.0,v1.1 and v1.2 support NT3.1, NT3.5, NT3.51 and NT4 OS respectively. Whereas, v3.0 (NTFS5) supports Windows 2000 and v3.1 supports Windows XP and further versions of Window OS. You can log on to to get information about partition revival software.

Some of the major causes for deletion or loss of HDD partitions are as follows,

    • Accidental deletion of partitions: Partitions may get deleted accidentally using partitioning tools like FDISK or Disk Management Utility. For instance, you may accidentally delete the partition that contains data instead of deleting an empty partition. When you delete the partition, all the data stored on that partition gets deleted resulting in data loss.
    • Accidental conversion of partition from dynamic to basic: Windows OS supports two types of disk storage i.e. basic and dynamic disk. Basic disk contains primary, logical and extended partitions whereas dynamic disk has an ability to create and span multiple volumes. You can convert basic disk to dynamic disk easily. But, converting dynamic disk back to basic disk deletes all the data. Sometimes, you may accidentally convert dynamic disk to basic disk resulting in data loss.
    • Partitioning errors: If you want to install multiple OS then you need to partition the HDD. While resizing the hard drive, if you encounter some errors then you may not be able to access the data present on existing partition resulting in data loss.

Generally, when you accidentally delete the partitions, they are not permanently deleted. Partition entry in partition table gets deleted making that particular partition inaccessible. You can bring back Windows 7 files, XP and Vista using an efficient partition revival tool. This software supports data resurgence from Seagate hard drive, Western digital, Samsung, Sony, Hitachi etc., with utmost ease.

To avoid data loss, take backup of complete partition data before resizing and converting the partitions from dynamic disk to basic disk. Recheck while deleting unwanted partitions to avoid accidental deletions. Hard Drive Revival utility is a competent resurgence tool that helps you to get back accidentally deleted partitions and regain lost data from hard drive partitions. This utility can also restore data from inaccessible and also undelete deleted partitions with utmost ease. This utility has an ability to reclaim data even from RAID0, RAID1 and RAID5 partitions, which has been accidentally formatted or deleted. This tool can recognize and retrieve different types of files based on their unique signature. If signatures for some files are not listed then you can add the signatures for such files. Hard Drive Recovery tool helps you to get back files from dell laptop hard drive and all other branded laptop hard drives in couple of minutes.

SCSI hard drive is the most commonly used hard drive interface in the systems. User can create more number of partitions so as to keep the data in a arranged way. But sometimes user may accidentally format the wrong partition while trying to create new logical drives. Use of formatting option wipes entire set of files and folders that are saved in it. Thefore visit this page to know how to recover data from SCSI hard drive effecively.

You can recover data that is lost after reinstalling Windows Operating system, by following below mentioned steps:

Step 1: Disconnect affected hard drive from PC and connect it to another PC as a secondary storage device. Make sure Hard Drive Recovery Software is installed on the PC to which the hard drive is connected. Launch the software and select "Recover Partitions/Drives" option from the main screen as shown in Figure 1
