  • Chkdsk or Checkdisk is a Windows application that checks Windows file system for integrity and accuracy in all inconsistency issues. In Windows NT-based version, this application can also check the hard disk surface for bad sectors and errors. Windows runs a boot-time chkdsk to make sure the consistency of its file system. If any error is found, chkdsk shows a full report. Windows hard drive corruption can occur due to various reasons such as registry files or system file corruption. Harmful viruses like Spyware, adware and Trojan horses can also cause system file corruption, resulting in a hard drive crash. Apart from these external issues, data loss can also occur due to small internal factors like bad sectors, lost clusters, cross-linked files, and directory errors. Windows hard drive revival software is an attempt to reclaim all your lost data, whether you've deleted it, hard disk has crashed, or even when you can't access your hard drive at all.

Let's take a realistic example. When you experience an unexpected shutdown of your system then after this, at each startup, you find that Windows runs chkdsk to check the consistency of disk. Each time, it shows the below error message:

    "An unspecified error occurred"

Though Windows can boot successfully thereafter, but shows certain issues.

At this point you can try fixing disk data occurring due to these errors using the Chkdsk command manually. Chkdsk.exe is a command-line tool that checks Windows partition or drives for problems and tries to repair errors that it finds. To use Chkdsk, you must log on as an Administrator. Being a command line code, it works natively from the command prompt but you can run it from My Computer or from Windows Explorer too for easier access. The Chkdsk reports exit codes after execution of the chkdsk command.

If hard drive corruption was due to bad sectors, cross-linked files or directory errors then all will be fixed using the Chkdsk command. If not, then possibly files are severely damaged and you may need to format your partitions or whole disk to remove corruption leading to huge data loss.
